Good morning! Hello to all new readers, and welcome to the latest subscriber-only edition of the Vietnam Weekly. Today’s topics include a major private-sector fraud case and the ongoing difficulties facing the property sector. If you haven’t already, you can upgrade to a paid subscription for US$5/month or US$50/year below.

I’ve added a couple of new options as well, including a 20% discount for group subscriptions (two or more people) and a seven-day trial for anyone considering upgrading to the paid version.

On a personal note - Monday was the fifth birthday of the Vietnam Weekly, which came as a surprise to me as it doesn’t feel like it’s been anywhere near that long. I just want to thank you for your support, and I look forward to more conversations about this fascinating country in the future.

On to the news.

Tan Hiep Phat’s Troubles

If nothing else, the anti-graft campaign keeps people on their toes. It’s impossible to know what will come next, and a company or individual we hadn’t heard about for months could suddenly become front-page news.

Take last week’s blockbuster arrests from the private sector as an example.
