Good morning! Welcome to another subscriber-only edition of the Vietnam Weekly focused on the ongoing anti-corruption/anti-fraud campaign. New subscribers can read the previous parts of this series here and here. Anyone wishing to upgrade to a paid subscription can do so below for US$5/month or US$50/year.
Looking ahead a bit - I publish these subscriber-only features every two weeks, meaning two more will take us right up to Christmas. I’m going to the United States in late December (first visit home since the summer of 2019) and will be there for a month. I’m not entirely sure what my publishing schedule will be during that period yet. I’ll set aside some time for the newsletter, but keep in mind that late December and almost all of January will have an irregular schedule (unless something crazy happens here in Vietnam).
There’s been no slowdown in developments related to the numerous scandals discussed here before, though once again, the previous two weeks have mostly brought news on the private sector. This includes a spurt of news related to AIC Company that we’ll get to below - but let’s start with recent comments by VCP Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong, the leader of this campaign.
