Good morning, and a belated Happy Lunar New Year! I wanted to start the Year of the Tiger with a piece for paying subscribers. This one will go into the latest on a number of major infrastructure projects around Vietnam - and unfortunately little of the news is good. If you’d like to sign up to receive future subscriber-only articles, you can do so below for US$5/month or US$50/year.
Long Thanh International Airport
Late last month, for some inexplicable reason, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) announced that it would finish the first phase of Long Thanh six months earlier than planned - a date currently set for December 2025.
This is despite the fact that actual construction work hasn’t even begun, and it’s already February 2022.
Enter Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, who visited the mega-airport site in Dong Nai Province last weekend and said he was “dissatisfied” with the lack of progress. It turns out that 525 hectares of land still need to be handed over to ACV by the provincial government (so far 1,284 hectares have been handed over).
